Firstly, this is a literature review on resources found for the assessment on how mobiles effect the society. I found many books on how mobiles effect society, including e-books, I also found websites that held newspaper information on what journalists have written about the effects of mobiles on society. Another resource that I found that was extremely helpful, was a video, which is what I would like to tell you about first.
The video called 'The Mobile' can be found in Anglia Ruskin Chelmsford's Library,384.53. This was a documentary on mobiles in 2001, broadcast on channel five. This stated how mobiles have saved lives, used as fashion statements, how the law has introduced the IRP act, which enables police & governing bodies to check your phone actions. This can be a downside to mobile phones in society and the video gave me ideas on bad pointers. This video gave many ideas on how mobiles have effected our society overall.
I also found an e-book by Ling 2008, which, I would say was mainly based on the new generation and mobile phones. He brought across the point that letters are no longer sent as a social connection, SMS or calling is a better and faster method.
In this book it provides information on how mobile technology is reshaping our social lives.
In my research I also found a book by Prasad 2006, he suggests that news is now more readily available on your phones Internet. He says how you can join up with updates on your Internet mobile for example: the latest house prices. Also, he mentions betting, downloading music and how you can shop and manage your finances all through your mobile phone. I will be quoting and referencing from this book, as although it didn't hold much detail, it had some valid issues.
On the Internet was a newspaper article by the BBC. Wakefield. J, (2004) New generation embraces mobile phones[Internet]
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/3830527.stm
[Cited 22-6-04]
This article was important because it also focused on the generation issues of the mobile phone, like the emotional attachment teens have with their mobile phones.
Another book I researched into was Ling 2004, which provided many different aspects of mobiles and one point that I thought was important was how mobile phones were used in the social networking on the 9/11 bombings. There is now a law on using phones whilst driving and they have be known to cause many accidents while drivers have been using them.
Overall my research was phenomenal, I gathered plenty of information and have been able to create my own ideas from this research. It is good to have many different sources, as rifling through books can get time consuming.
